Who we help

We help Secondary School Students & Private Candidates (basically anyone who takes 'O' / 'N' level Mathematics and/or Additional Mathematics).

Our students are highly motivated and want to do well in Mathematics.

These students want a predictable way to consistently score A1 for Math but they lack the knowledge, structure and proper guidance to get there.

What we do

We help these students make Math easy.

We do this by working very closely with all of students to build an strong grasp of their fundamental concepts, followed by exposing them to all possible question types for every topic and then consistently working on their speed, accuracy and certainty.

Our teaching methodology, A1 Math Protocol, aims to strip every single complicated Math concept down to its fundamental blocks.

Hence our students do not only learn but in fact appreciate and be able to effortlessly apply the concepts taught to answer questions in exams.

Our mission

Our mission is to make scoring A1 for Math easy.

'Easy' is when a student can score A1 for Math with predictability without having to sacrifice hours of painful revision or panicking during exams and "blanking out".

Our story

Part 1: Student -> Student Mentor -> Freelancer

It started back in 2016, when I (Gerald Poh) first came into contact with secondary school Mathematics in secondary 1.

I immediately fell in love with the subject and willingly practiced hours of Math every day.

As I started to consistently score A for Math in every single consecutive school exam, I started to help out my fellow peers around me with after-school Math peer-tutoring sessions.

As their student mentor, I started refining the way I presented and taught Math concepts to others.

I fell deeper in love with Mathematics with this opportunity as I saw how my peers' grades improved so quickly after attending a couple my sessions and I instantly knew that this was something I'd like to pursue even after secondary school.

Fast forward 4 years in secondary school, I graduated with a net L1R5 score of 2 points and was awarded a MOE scholarship and furthered my studies in Hwa Chong Junior College, where I continued to pursue H2 Mathematics.

During my JC years, I continued to help out my secondary school juniors with Mathematics.

I stuck at it and built a solid foundation for my teaching methodology which has transcended into the A1 Math Protocol today.

After JC, I served 2 years of National Service where I invested a good amount of time to recap my Mathematical knowledge as I knew that I wanted to start tutoring for secondary school Math right after National Service.

After my ORD, I started to post my insights and knowledge about secondary school Math and study tips on TikTok (@geraldstudies).

I quickly gained attention from students and started to amass a following where I showed up everyday to provide value to my followers using my personal experiences and results.

I started to land 1-1 tutoring consultations as well, where my schedule got fully booked within the first 2 months of me posting on social media.

Part 2: 1-1 Freelancer -> Physical 1-8 Group Tutoring -> Online Group Tutoring

Eager to help more secondary students, I opened my physical and online group tutoring classes as it was the only way I could provide even more value to my waitlist of students who wanted to learn from me without conflicting with my fully-booked out schedule of 1-1 classes.

Word got around about my classes pretty quickly as I had a little over 100 students in total by my 4th month tutoring.

The excitement and satisfaction I derived from delivering "ah-ha" moments to my students and seeing them drastically improve within a short span of time was what sealed the deal for me and made me confirm that this is something that I would love to do for the rest of my life.

Part 3: Freelancer With Many Students -> Official MOE Registered Academy With Many Students And A Team

Devoting all of my time and energy into delivering the best quality secondary Math education to all of my students, I started to build a team of reliable and super capable people who not only supports me in my daily operations, but also share the same mission and vision as I do.

I started 'A1 Math Academy' and started expanding my outreach through more social media accounts on TikTok (@a1mathacademy) and exploring different platforms as well (Instagram: @a1mathacademy, Facebook: @a1mathacademy).

To date, my team and I have reached and made a difference in the lives of over 100,000 parents and students (measured by our total engagement across all social media platforms + our official students), thousands of heartfelt reviews and comments and hundreds of wins of our students who saw great improvement in their results.

We aren't slowing down anytime soon and we can't wait to see where this journey will take us down the road.

We know that as long as we fully focus on providing the most value and delivering the best results for our students, A1 Math Academy will always be on the right path.
